Meet the team

Alexis Duvernay, Investment Director

Alexis Duvernay joined the M&G fixed interest team in January 2019 from AXA Investment Managers, where he worked for 10 years and most recently held the role of portfolio manager/strategist for Asian fixed income in Hong Kong. Alexis, who has experience in managing assets for mutual funds and institutional mandates, is responsible for communicating the philosophy, investment process, positioning and performance of M&G’s emerging markets debt mutual fund strategies. Alexis holds a degree in Physics from Pierre et Marie Curie University, and a Master’s degree in Finance from Toulouse Business School. Alexis is a CFA charterholder and speaks French and English.

Charles de Quinsonas, Fund Manager

Charles de Quinsonas is an emerging market corporate bond specialist and has been working as co-fund manager and deputy fund manager for a series of emerging markets corporate bond funds domiciled in London and Luxembourg since 2015. He has more than a decade of emerging market corporate bond experience, with a deep knowledge of high yield credit. Prior to joining M&G in 2014, he worked at Spread Research in Lyon and New York, where he spent four years analysing a variety of high yield and emerging market industrial credits. Charles holds a B.B.A. from ESSEC Business School and a MSc in Corporate Finance from iaelyon School of Management.

Claudia Calich, Fund Manager

Claudia Calich joined M&G in October 2013 as a specialist in emerging markets debt and, in December 2013, started managing the Emerging Markets Bond strategy. Since May 2017, she has also been on the management team of strategies domiciled in Luxembourg. Claudia has more than 20 years of experience in emerging markets, including as a senior portfolio manager at Invesco in New York, and previous positions at Oppenheimer Funds, Fuji Bank, Standard & Poor’s and Reuters. Claudia graduated with a BA (Honours) in Economics from Susquehanna University in 1989 and holds an MA in International Economics from the International University of Japan in Niigata.

 

Doreen Saik, Senior Credit Analyst

Doreen Saik joined M&G in March 2022 as a Senior Credit Analyst covering Asian Corporates with a high yield focus for the Emerging Markets Debt Team. Doreen is a specialist in Asian credit, bringing with her over 14 years of Asian credit experience with a strong high yield focus

Prior to joining M&G, Doreen was previously with Neuberger Berman covering Asian credits and was also the ESG lead in Asia where she spent over 6 years focusing on ESG integration into credit investing. Doreen started out her credit analyst career with Principal Global Investors and held similar role at Eastspring Investments where she looked at both hard and local currency corporate credits. Since then, she developed a strong interest in high yield segment

Doreen graduated with a Magna cum Laude in her double degree in Bachelor of Accountancy and Bachelor of Business Management (Finance Major) from the Singapore Management University in 2006. Doreen speaks English and Mandarin.

Eldar Vakhitov, Investment Strategist

Eldar Vakhitov has over 12 years’ experience working as an emerging market economist and sovereign analyst. Prior to joining M&G in January 2019, Eldar worked as an emerging markets economist specialising in the Emerging EMEA region at BNP Paribas and Barclays, where he started his career in late 2009, based in London.

Eldar holds two BSc in Economics – one from National Research University (Higher School of Economics, Moscow) and one from University of London External Programme – and an MSc in Finance and Economics from London School of Economics and Political Science. Eldar speaks English and Russian.

Gregory Smith, Fund Manager

Gregory Smith joined M&G in January 2020 and has more than 17 years’ experience working in emerging and frontier markets. He is a senior emerging markets sovereign debt strategist and is part of the management team of the Emerging Markets Hard Currency Bond strategy. Prior to joining M&G, Gregory worked at the World Bank for seven years as a senior economist and sovereign debt adviser. He began his career on the Overseas Development Institute’s fellowship scheme, working as an economist in the Ugandan finance ministry. Gregory holds a PhD in Quantitative economics from Nottingham university.

Nick Smallwood, EM Financials Credit Specialist

Nick Smallwood joined M&G in September 2019 as a financials strategist for emerging markets debt. Nick, who has 14 years’ market experience, has been involved in emerging markets for the past eight years. While his main expertise lies in the financials space, he has also covered various non-financial corporate sectors. Prior to joining M&G, Nick has held positions at ING, AIG, GE Asset Management and Daiwa Capital Markets. Nick graduated from the University of Oxford with a BA Hons in Classics.
