Leadership and governance

Our business is run by our executive leadership team whose skills and expertise inspire the rest of our teams.

The executive leadership team is accountable to the M&G Group Limited Board, a smaller group consisting of our Chief Executive, Chief Financial Officer and three independent non-executive directors. This group makes sure our business has the right structure, resources and financial reporting in place to succeed.

Anne Richards CBE

Chief Executive

Anne was appointed Chief Executive of M&G Investments and executive director of Prudential plc in June 2016.

Prior to this, Anne was Global Chief Investment Officer and Head of the EMEA region for Aberdeen Asset Management, a U.K. FTSE 100 listed company.

Before joining Aberdeen in 2003, Anne was joint Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer of Edinburgh Fund Managers. Her investment career as a fund manager and analyst spanned 24 years, including time with Mercury Asset Management (later MLIM), J P Morgan Investment Management and Alliance Capital. Before moving into investment management, Anne spent six years working as an engineer, including a spell as a research scientist at CERN.

Anne has a degree in Electronics and Electrical Engineering from the University of Edinburgh and an MBA from INSEAD.

Anne serves on the Board of Leaders of 2020 Women on Boards, a US organisation which aims to increase the proportion of women on corporate boards.

William Nott

Chief Executive M&G Securities

Since 2006, Will Nott has been Chief Executive of M&G Securities, running M&G’s retail business in UK Europe and Asia. In 2015, Will was also elected Vice President of the European Fund and Asset Management Association (EFAMA); the leading investment management industry association.

Will has worked at M&G since graduating from Warwick University in 1984. Having managed retail and institutional funds for the first twelve years of his career, he gained commercial experience first as head of Institutional Business Development and then head of Group Sales. In June 2000 he became Chief Executive Officer of M&G International to oversee the development of M&G’s fund distribution into Europe.

Simon Pilcher

Chief Executive Fixed Income

Simon Pilcher is a director of M&G Limited and Chief Executive of the Fixed Income division.

Before joining M&G in September 1998, Simon spent nine years at Morgan Grenfell Asset Management where he led fixed income teams investing in investment-grade corporate bonds and major G7 government bond markets.

Simon has an honours degree in management studies from Trinity Hall, Cambridge.

Graham Mason

Chief Investment Officer – Equities, Multi-Asset, Retail Fixed Income and Chief Executive, Equities

Graham is responsible for the investment performance and processes for all M&G funds in the equities business, retail fixed income and multi-asset.

Graham was appointed to his role at M&G having undertaken a number of asset management roles within the Prudential Group since 1990. These included Chief Executive of Eastspring Investments (Prudential's Asian fund management business) and Chairman of Prudential Portfolio Managers South Africa after starting his Prudential career within Prudential Portfolio Managers in the UK. Graham has broad experience in asset management across both geography and asset class.

As an investment professional, Graham has also directly managed equity, fixed income and asset allocation, and as an executive, has been responsible for property, private equity and alternative assets too.

Prior to joining Prudential, Graham worked at Old Mutual and Norwich Union.

Gary Cotton

Chief Operating Officer, M&G Investment Management and M&G Alternatives Investment Management

Gary Cotton is Chief Operating Officer of M&G Investment Management and M&G Alternative Investment Management. Gary joined M&G in February 1996 and was promoted to Head of Equities Business Management in 2001 where he was responsible for the day-to-day management and operations of the Equities fund management business. He was appointed Chief Executive of Equities from November 2011 to November 2015 and is also a director of M&G Securities Limited.

Before joining M&G, Gary worked at Sedgwick Noble Lowndes.

Alex Jeffrey

Chief Executive, M&G Real Estate

Alex Jeffrey joined M&G Real Estate, the real estate fund management arm of M&G, as Chief Executive in July 2012. Alex has a wealth of experience in international real estate investment management and a strong track record of growing businesses. Before joining M&G Real Estate, he was founding shareholder and global Chief Investment Officer of MGPA, the independent private equity real estate investment advisory business, based in London and subsequently Singapore. During this time, he was involved in £5 billion of real estate and development transactions across the UK, continental Europe and Asia.

Prior to this, he worked in various senior investment management and corporate finance roles at Lend Lease Corporation, JP Morgan and HSBC. Alex has 28 years’ experience in real estate, investment management and finance. He has an MA (Hons) in Law from Cambridge University, an MBA from INSEAD and is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

Neil Donnelly

Chief Compliance Officer

Neil Donnelly was appointed Chief Compliance Officer for M&G Investments in February 2017.

Prior to joining M&G, Neil was Global Head of Compliance for Pioneer Investments, having previously held various senior legal and compliance roles within the Pioneer Group since 2002. Neil has been an active speaker on regulatory matters and has participated in expert advisory groups for the European Commission and industry associations. A lawyer by background, Neil began his career at KPMG in Dublin before working for international law firm Norton Rose and later as a company lawyer for Baring Asset Management in London. 

Neil holds a BCL Degree from University College Dublin, a Barrister-at-Law degree from Kings Inns and was called to the Bar in 1994.

Grant Speirs

Chief Financial Officer

Grant Speirs joined M&G as Chief Financial Officer in November 2008.

Grant was previously finance director of PPM South Africa for nine years, where he was responsible for investment operations, compliance, risk and IT, in addition to finance. Before this he spent two years at Maple Financial Group in the UK as a project accountant, before returning to South Africa. He originally qualified as a chartered accountant with Ernst & Young in Johannesburg in 1996. Grant has interim responsibility for Risk whilst a new Chief Risk Officer is appointed.

Jonathan McClelland

General Counsel

Jonathan joined M&G in 1995 and headed the Legal Services function within the combined Legal and Compliance department from 1999 onwards. Since then the Legal function has expanded considerably to meet increasing demands on it, both regulatory and business-driven. The department now comprises three distinct teams; Legal, Front Office Trading Legal Documentation and Company Secretarial. In April 2016, Legal and Compliance were separated into distinct central functions and Jonathan joined the M&G Limited Board as General Counsel. Jonathan also acts as the Executive Sponsor to M&G Pride, M&G's LGBT Network. Immediately before joining M&G, Jonathan was the Assistant Company Secretary of IMRO, the then regulator for the asset management industry for two years, and before that worked in private practice as a company/commercial solicitor. Jonathan graduated in law from Birmingham University in 1985.

Gareth Jones

HR Director

Gareth Jones has been HR director of M&G Group since June 2007. He was previously head of Organisational Development and Training, having joined Prudential's fund management business in 1998.

Before joining M&G, Gareth was managing consultant with a consulting business. Here he focused on leadership development and project and risk management with a particular emphasis on the financial sector. In his early career, Gareth held a range of commercial and business management and development roles.

Gareth has an MA in Modern Languages from Oxford University and, in 2016, was appointed Chair of the educational charity NOCN.

Jonathan (Joffy) Willcocks

Global Head of Distribution (interim)

Joffy has overall responsibility for sales and marketing across M&G Investments.

Joffy joined the industry in 1986, beginning his career with Hambros Bank in the Investment Management Division. Having moved into Investment Sales from Hambros, he joined Prolific as Regional Sales Manager in 1993, responsible for marketing mutual funds to intermediaries in East Anglia and the Midlands. Following the merger with Aberdeen in 1997, he became Investment Sales Director, having additional responsibility for clients in London and Switzerland. He moved to US investment house MFS in 2001 as Sales Director, responsible for sales into UK and Scandinavia, before joining M&G Investments in February 2005.

Joffy is a Fellow of the UK Chartered Securities Institute, and a Chartered Wealth Manager. He also sits on the UK IA Investment Funds Committee.

Beatrice Hollond

Independent Director

Beatrice is a member of the Board of Brown Advisory, a Non-Executive Director at Templeton Emerging Markets Investment Trust, Chairman at Millbank Investment Management Ltd, Chairman at Keystone Investment Trust and Non- Executive Director and Chairman of Audit Committee at Henderson Smaller Companies Investment Trust. She spent 16 years at Credit Suisse Asset Management in Global Fixed Income and began her career as an Equity Analyst at Morgan Grenfell Asset Management.

Beatrice has an MA in Oriental Languages from Oxford University.

Colin Keogh

Independent Director

Colin has spent his career in financial services, principally at Close Brothers Group plc, where he worked for 24 years and was CEO from 2002 until 2009. Colin is currently a non-executive director of London-listed Virgin Money Group plc and Senior Independent Director at Hiscox Ltd. He is also Chairman of the specialist financial services business, Premium Credit.

Philip Remnant

Non-executive Chairman

Philip has been a Non-Executive Director and the Senior Independent Director of Prudential PLC and a member of its Audit, Nomination and Remuneration Committees since January 2013. He is also Deputy Chairman of the Takeover Panel, a non-executive director of Severn Trent plc and Senior Independent Director of UK Financial Investments Limited. 

Philip is also Chairman of City of London Investment Trust plc and was a senior adviser at Credit Suisse until December 2013. Philip was previously a Vice Chairman of Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB) Europe and Head of its UK Investment Banking Department. Philip was seconded to the role of Director General of the Takeover Panel from 2001 to 2003, and again in 2010. He served on the Board of Northern Rock plc from 2008 to 2010, and from 2007 to 2012, was Chairman of its Shareholder Executive.
