Equities

New markets, same purpose.

M&G’s roots lie in the UK stock market. We launched our first unit trust more than 85 years ago, allowing individual investors a chance to share in the long term growth of businesses such as Rolls-Royce and the Savoy Hotel, some of which are still around today.

Much has changed since 1931 – for example now we invest in the shares of companies in over 52 countries around the world, including many emerging markets. Today, our team of equity and multi asset fund managers aims to meet a range of different customer needs, such as the desire to receive a steady income or to grow capital over time.

Some of them do this by specialising in investment opportunities in companies at a particular stage of development (such as smaller companies) or in a certain geographic region (such as the UK or Japan). Others aim to meet specific customer needs by creating the right mix of equities and other assets, such as bonds, currencies or property, all in the same fund. Together, this range of approaches and objectives gives our customers plenty of choice, and helps diversify their investments to spread risk.

While many things have moved on since 1931, the most important things haven’t changed. We’re investors for the long term – sometimes holding equities for ten years or more – because we want to help our customers prosper in the long term. And because we’re always thinking about the long term, we take our role as active owners of equities seriously.

Our commitment to responsible investment

We want to be good stewards of our customers’ money and responsible owners of the companies in which we invest. This means we use our influence to hold the senior management teams of companies to account, in particular encouraging good environmental and social practices and good corporate governance. We believe that through this approach to active ownership, we can bring about real change and benefit our customers, the economy and society.

The value of investments will fluctuate, which will cause fund prices to fall as well as rise and you may not get back the original amount you invested.
