Since the 1930s, we’ve been helping improve the national infrastructure.

Infrastructure assets – ranging from roads and hospitals to broadband networks - are the backbone of society and the economy. They are essential services to help communities thrive and businesses flourish and grow. But complex infrastructure services require lots of capital investment - when they are first built and also for maintenance and improvements throughout their long lifetime.

M&G and our customers have been helping improve the national infrastructure since the 1930s – and today we do more than ever.

Case study - Gigaclear

Find out how M&G’s specialist infrastructure equity team provided the capital needed by this fast-growing company to help it connect rural communities to ultrafast broadband.

For customers who want the flexibility of being able to access their money quickly and easily if they need it, our equity and fixed income teams invest in the publicly traded shares and bonds of listed infrastructure companies, such as electric and water utilities.

On behalf of institutional clients such as pension funds – who are happy to commit money for the longer term – our Alternatives team lends our customers’ money to finance long term infrastructure projects such as new hospitals and schools or new renewable energy plants.

Infracapital, our specialist infrastructure equity team, takes a different approach. We gather pools of our institutional clients’ money to invest in unlisted infrastructure companies, such as ferries, ports, broadband networks or utility companies. Then, as the owners or substantial part owners of a company, we help the management team to deliver better, more efficient services, or to grow the number of businesses or people they serve. Owning infrastructure brings a great deal of responsibility of course, so a big part of the value we create is in helping companies plan for the long term environmental, social and other factors which will affect the communities and businesses they serve.

The value of investments will fluctuate, which will cause fund prices to fall as well as rise and you may not get back the original amount you invested.
