Diversity events and initiatives

Employee engagement, networking and career development 

  • 92% of staff agree with the statement “M&G respects the individual differences (e.g. cultures, backgrounds, disabilities, sexual orientation) of its employees”

  • We’re a proud supporter of the ‘This is Me in the City’ campaign, an initiative led by the Lord Mayor’s Appeal – as part of this, Mind Matters ran several activities for Mental Health Awareness Week to highlight the importance of mental health and wellbeing

  • The M&G Pride & Allies community runs awareness sessions and training, as well as participating in community initiatives such as the Pride in London parade

  • We host Cityparents seminars throughout the year to help our employees balance their home/family life

  • A ‘Future of Work Community’ was created to consider how we should adapt working practices to meet the future needs of our employees, as our workforce becomes increasingly diverse, multi-generational and digitally enabled

  • All new employees go through an extensive induction process involving face-to-face inclusive behaviour training – from managers to trainees, these sessions are aimed at schooling new recruits in our core beliefs around inclusivity

  • M&G CAN (Cultural Awareness Network) aims to grow awareness and understanding of the diverse cultures we have in our workplace and in our business relationships, to celebrate those cultures and create and environment where everyone is comfortable bringing their true self to work, leading to better client outcomes

Widening access to the investment and savings industry 

  • We engage with young people and school-age students, to inspire them to consider a career in investment management and give them practical advice on how to get started – examples of our initiatives include M&G Graduate and Apprenticeship Insights Events, i2020 (focused on school leavers and graduates), Enabling Enterprise, Speakers for Schools, AuthentiCity (a cross-sector careers event for LGBT students)

  • We launched the Career Returners initiative to support people who are coming back to work following an extended career break, making sure they’re welcomed back into a supportive and flexible environment

Our commitment to diversity 

  • We’re proud to champion the Diversity Project, an initiative supported by the Investment Association which accelerates progress towards an inclusive culture in the investment profession – it aims to achieve diversity across all dimensions, including gender, ethnicity, socio-economic background, LGBTI+, age and disability

  • We are proud to be a part of the Real Estate Balance journey, which promotes and supports gender diversity in the real estate industry. Alex Jeffrey, Chief Executive of M&G Real Estate has signed up to the CEO Commitments for Diversity, alongside 50 other industry leaders. More details can be found here

  • Prudential signed the HM Treasury 'Women in Finance Charter', which aims to increase the number of women working in senior management in financial services companies – as part of the Prudential Group, we’re also fully committed to the target of 30% females in senior management by 2021
