Several megatrends are pushing up global demand for healthcare, driving innovation in areas from pharmaceuticals to remote patient monitoring, and presenting opportunities for impact investors. Firstly, more people are living for longer. This is good news, but as health-related spending increases with age, there will be a greater need for healthcare as this demographic shift continues. Poor diet and increasingly sedentary lifestyles have also led to an increasing prevalence of lifestyle diseases, requiring more preventative solutions, diagnostics, drugs, equipment and care. Finally, increasing prosperity in developed and developing markets is also creating greater demand, as rising income is linked to higher healthcare spending.
