Since Trex became the first company to produce composite decking in 1996, demand for timber alternatives has outgrown the wider decking market in the US and Canada. Trex not only has a prominent brand and strong market share, but its products are made using proprietary manufacturing technology. Its long-lasting decking can offer good value to homeowners and businesses compared to lumber. Whereas wood decking lasts for 10 years, on average, Trex guarantees its more durable composite products for at least 25 years.
Trex is a pioneer in the transition towards a more circular economy. Consumer behaviour is a major driver of climate change. Trex addresses this challenge through the design of its composite decks, which are 95% made from recycled wood and plastic waste.. The company therefore diverts waste that would end up in landfill, and cuts the amount of timber decking that does not get reused.
By reducing waste and reusing materials in its products, Trex contributes to the achievement of UN Sustainable Development Goal 12 – ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns.
