Cogna is one of the largest private education providers in the world. It delivers on-campus tuition to roughly one million university students in Brazil, as well as over 200,000 children through associated primary and secondary schools. The company’s products and services reach an even wider group of school children, language students and adult learners in Latin America’s largest country. To improve access to post-secondary education, Cogna also offers affordable loans to eligible students.

Why do we invest?

Cogna has a strong brand and presence that extends across the education market in Brazil. It is very well placed to meet the demand for quality, affordable tuition in a country of 211 million people whose educational needs are not met by the state. Fewer than one-in-five Brazilians between the ages of 25 and 34 have a university degree. This is much less than in Latin American peers like Chile and Mexico, and less than half the rate in developed economies, so there is significant potential for the market to continue to grow.

What is their impact?

Cogna is a pioneer in improving access to better work and education. The company offers affordable, effective private education in a country where public alternatives are under-resourced. Public universities in Brazil are often out of reach for disadvantaged students whose schooling has been underfunded.

By helping to bridge the educational gap, Cogna contributes to the achievement of UN Sustainable Development Goal 4 – ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities.
