The company says it is working on technologies such as speech recognition and synthesis, language understanding and conversation response, machine translation, and Q&A, and conducting research for future devices such as language engines and understanding large languages (large language models are machine learning models trained on large amounts of text such as books, articles, and web pages). “As a result of this research, all devices around you should provide you with ease of living, which will improve your quality of life,” it says.2
Bixby Developer Platform
Through its Bixby Developer Platform, the company provides tools and resources for developers to create and integrate AI-powered features into their products and services. For example, the company partnered with BMW to integrate Bixby into the carmaker’s Intelligent Personal Assistant, allowing users to check the status of their car, adjust climate controls, etc., by just using voice commands. Another example is the integration of Bixby into the Uber app, which allows users to book rides or check their trip status using voice commands, as well as get personalised recommendations based on their preferences and previous ride history. Samsung Smart Things, a platform allowing users to control and automate their smart home devices with their voice, also uses Bixby. Furthermore, Third-party developers can also integrate their products with SmartThings.3
