Our summer internship is open to students in their penultimate year of undergraduate studies. You’ll undertake an eight-week immersive dive into what it’s like to work in our teams within your scheme. The programme acts as a pipeline for our graduate schemes, with those who are successful offered a place after finishing their studies the following year. You’ll go through comprehensive training in the first few weeks of your internship, making our internships suitable for those with and without industry knowledge.

I really enjoyed my internship at M&G: my team were really welcoming and made sure I always had interesting work to be doing. Working in a team using agile working methods helped with this, as at our daily stand ups my teammates could check that I wasn’t stuck on anything for too long. Coming to my technology internship without a computing related degree and very little knowledge of coding, I really benefitted from being able to work in a pair with experienced developers on my team, who patiently helped me learn, so that by the end of the internship I was able to pick up development stories on my own. I also had the opportunity to try out analysis, working with BAs on the team to prepare stories, test new functions and investigate problems with the data. The network of grads and interns also allowed me to get a view into different areas within technology, and the business as a whole. I also appreciated how much I learned about the Financial Services industry from the range of insight training sessions with senior business people, the M&G internship experience gave me a great overview!

I was placed into the Alternative Credit team in the Fixed Income department where I was given real responsibility from day one. By fully immersing myself in the day to day activities of my colleagues I learned so much, and the support I received was second to none! Everyone was always willing to give advice or help when needed. I attended workshops in several different aspects of the business so as to get exposure to other departments across M&G, so in a short space of time I was able to experience a wide range of roles. M&G was an excellent choice for an internship in asset management and I look forward to continuing my career there as a graduate.

An internship at M&G is a fantastic way to kickstart your career in technology in a friendly, supportive environment that maintains a healthy work-life balance. Upon starting, you’ll be placed into a team that matches your technical skillset and this allowed me to make meaningful contributions and help add value to the business – which was hugely rewarding. I was also able to meet different people from different technology teams and organised one-day work shadowing placements with them to get a better insight of the range of other technology roles available at M&G aside from just programming.
