We're beginning to broaden our approach to consider our impacts and the opportunities associated with natural capital and social equality.

Net Zero Asset Managers Initiative Targets

M&G is a founding member of the Net Zero Asset Managers Initiative (NZAMI), an international group of asset managers committed to supporting the goal of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 or sooner. In 2021, we set initial interim targets towards net zero, and report progress annually, in line with the requirements of NZAMI. Over time, these interim targets will be revised as we obtain external client consent and as standard measurement methodology for all asset classes develops.

As an asset owner, M&G has joined the UN-convened Net Zero Asset Owner Alliance, a global group of institutional investors committed to transitioning their portfolios to net zero by 2050. In 2022, we set our first interim targets towards net zero as an asset owner.

Thermal Coal

We’re members of the Powering Past Coal Alliance (PPCA) and committed to end thermal coal-related investments by 2030 across OECD and EU member states and by 2040 in developing countries, as outlined in our plc Position on Thermal Coal.

Our corporate carbon reduction commitments

Whilst emissions from our corporate operations, our offices, travel and supply chain are small compared to those of investment activities, our clients, customers and shareholders rightly expect us to lead by example and strive to decarbonise our own business operations.

Our ambition is that:

By 2025 have 100% renewable electricity across our corporate offices
By 2030 reduce our absolute scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions (tCO2e) from the offices we operate from by 46% and similarly reduce our scope 1,2 and 3 business travel carbon emissions (tCO2e) by 46%.
By 2030 at least 67% of our scope 3 supply chain emissions are covered by science-based climate target
