Pensions and IHT - the final (ish) chapter

There’s a little under 8 months to go until most pensions fall into the IHT net.

March saw the Finance Act get Royal Assent so we now have an almost final understanding of the scope of the changes and associated tax issues. Regulations have been issued telling us what the practical mechanics of the new regime will be.

Les takes a look at where we are and what’s outstanding.   Who’s going to have a liability? What will it be? And how can we get it paid?

In addition, he will look at some cases studies on potential actions to reduce those liabilities.

  • Identify who will be impacted by the inclusion of pensions in the IHT regime
  • Calculate the tax liability of a pension scheme
  • Explain the process for pension schemes meeting IHT liabilities and when to use them
  • Explain how discounted gift trusts and loan trusts can help meet retirement needs alongside intergenerational tax efficiency.
