Our annuity products

About our annuity products

You can use your pension pot to buy an annuity, which gives you a regular income for a set period, or for the rest of your life. This means you’ll have a predictable income to help you with your retirement planning.

Key things to know
  • Annuity income is usually taxed, similar to a salary.
  • Some annuities offer a fixed income for life, others offer a fixed income for a set number of years.
  • Some annuity products are linked to investments, so your income can go up or down depending on how those investments perform. This means you could get back less than you originally paid in.
  • We'll contact you about seven weeks before your plan's anniversary to explain any annuity income changes and your options.
  • We'll let you know if your net income changes by more than £10.
  • When you purchase an annuity, you may be able to choose from flexible features, such as:
    • Choosing annual increases by linking to inflation
    • Providing an income for a partner after you die
    • Choosing a guaranteed payment period.

Once you’ve purchased an annuity you won’t be able to change your mind.

So it’s important to consider your options and needs in retirement. Depending on the type of annuity you have, may be able to switch to another annuity product.

Tax rules can change. The impact of taxation or any tax relief depends on your personal circumstances and where you live.

Power of Attorney

In the event you’re no longer able to make legal and/or financial decisions for yourself, having a Power of Attorney in place can provide you and your loved ones with peace of mind.

A Power of Attorney is a legal way of letting someone you trust make importance decisions about your finances and/or your health on your behalf. It helps to ensure your affairs are managed as you’d want them to be.

Getting financial advice

If you’re making an important financial decision, or thinking about your longer term financial health, then we recommend that you get financial advice.

  • You should speak to your financial adviser if you have one.
  • If you don’t have an adviser, you can search for an independent financial adviser by visiting unbiased.co.uk or by calling them on 0800 023 6868.
  • You could speak to M&G Advice. Whether it's about financial planning, accessing your pension, making sure you get the most from your tax allowances or protecting your loved ones; whatever your financial goals – we can help.
